Tawandang: Unmistakably Thai

Taps

We managed to convince our wives to accompany us to the opening weekend at Tawandang Microbrewery (TWD) for a tasting excursion. It’s the lastest microbrewery to open its taps in Singapore and prides itself as being Thai-German. Why? That’s because they brew German-styled beers while serving authentic Thai food.

We couldn’t argue about the food, it was truly authentic Thai cuisine and with a very good variety. When it came to the beer, 3 brews were available. The TWD lager was cloudy and looked more like a golden ale with a mild hoppy taste.

The Weizen turned out to be a favourite for my wife with a typical fruity taste you would expect from wheat beers. And lastly, the Dunkel is much like a Munich-style dark beer. Don’t let the colour put you off, it tastes a little roasted but light bodied.

Some would find it a bonus to have a Thai band jamming on stage for a good 90mins with a mix of electric guitars and traditional instruments. For us, we were just happy enjoying the food.
