Somersby Apple Cider – Probably the best cider drank!

It’s taken a long time for cider to gain popularity in Singapore. For the longest time, cider fans had to manage with pretenders like E33 before Strongbow taps found homage in pubs around town. But these days, even Cold Storage stocks up on Magners and when on promotion, it goes for less than $8 a pop.

Tastes like apple champagne, if it doesn't exist, at least there's Somersby!

Well, Carlsberg Singapore has upped the stakes by introducing the Somersby Apple Cider and we were fortunate enough to score a bottle. Let me put it simply – this is best cider I’ve ever tasted. And I took all of 5 mins to finish the bottle, it was really that good.

I love my ciders and I love my champagne and this Somersby cider comes close to a semi-cuvee apple champagne, if there’s ever such a drink! It’s no fib by describing my first taste felt as though I was biting into a big, juicy apple and what gushed out was pure apple juice mixed with tonic! Sweet and full of flavour.  I am sure this is going to give Magners, Pipsqueak, Strongbow a run for their money.

It’s hitting our shelves and for those visiting Beer Fest Asia 2010, you’ll find it available there. It’s sheer torture having to wait till then to drink it again!

From the green packaging I’d have thought that it was slightly sour…like green apples.

Fun-fact-that-won’t-impress-the-ladies #392: “Apple cider” describes non-alcoholic cider in the US. It’s “hard cider” if it’s joy-juice.

  2. Yeah, it’s good, very useful, thanks :)

Try their pear cider if you get a chance, even more intriguing.

We consumed lots of this in Europe, but cannot find it in the states. Any help?

    Hi Greg,

It doesn’t seem like it’s readily available across the States. In fact, global distribution outside of a few European countries is rather limited.

The guys from Carlsberg are planning to launch this in more markets but our tastebuds are getting impatient!

    Cheers

I had never heard of this until I spent a few days in Copenhagen last month. I’m not a fan of Euro-style beer so I found myself drinking a lot of Somersby cider. Very refreshing after long afternoons of walking around being a tourist. The Apple was very good but the Pear and the Elderflower ciders were even better. It was also available in Iceland, but I sadly haven’t seen it since getting back to the US.
