I mentioned in one of my previous posts that I get to visit lots of hotels as part of my job. This time round, I’m bringing you something rather exotic albeit expensive from one of Japan’s finest international hotels.

I had the privilege of dining at Grand Hyatt Tokyo at Roppongi Hills. This area is pretty much the equivalent of Beverly Hills. Tonight, dinner was at the exquisite sushi bar, Roku Roku. Fish is purchased daily from Tsujiki market or directly from selected fisheries so you can be guaranteed the finest tastes.

Dining with a good local friend, we had a special Uni (sea urchin) and sake tasting set. Yes, you can eat sea urchin as they are harvested for their internal roe. One of the dishes served was a combination of seasoned rice with Uni on top served straight out of a sea urchin shell that still had short spikes!

The roe itself has a deep orange colour with a creamy texture and tastes sweet. We had a combination of beer and two different sakes which will wonderfully paired for such a meal. To top it all, the service was absolutely first class. Definitely worth a try for any foodie.

On a previous visit to this hotel, I patronized their jazz bar, Maduro. They had a beer called Estrella on tap and being true to my cause, I ordered a glass. This being the Grand Hyatt, the presentation had to be different. Served in a conical glass which sits in a separate glass cube. I guess the glass cube serves as a coaster too. Obviously, this is a place to sip and savour, not chugging down every pint.
