Beers filled from the bottom of the cup!

This is completely new to us! Never have we seen beers being filled from the bottom of the cup. Looks like it’s done by by the guys from Budweiser, or should we say, Butt-weiser. Gives a whole new meaning to “Bottoms up!”

Dutch ‘Beer Babes’ at the World Cup?

A bunch of Dutch football fans were detained as suspects of ambush marketing for Dutch beer Bavaria. They appeared in orange outfits accompanied by Bavaria beer packs which probably left FIFA and official sponsor, Budweiser, red in the face. Read more here.

Visit Shanghai World Expo: Bud-ket List

With less than a week to go before the 2010 World Expo opens in Shanghai, 175proof.com received preview tickets to visit the site this past weekend. This is just one of those things on my bucket list, including watching U2 in concert, go shark diving and make a pilgrimmage to the Muchen Oktoberfest (which we will be this September!)

On Saturday, I made my way down to the Shanghai Expo site in Pudong with a friend who uses words “Awesome! Great! Fab!” to describe just about anything. Well, I’ll borrow those words to describe the Expo because it truly was such.

As it’s still a preview, more than half of the paviliions were not open and whatever was open had a queue line of 2-4hours to enter. Fortunately, I had friends working there which came with privileges…

The official Expo beer is Budweiser and even then, I only found one tiny Bud shop selling beer cans with me being the only patron. The beer babe made it clear that local Chinese don’t really drink during the day and this was validated when most people came into the shop thinking it was selling Coke!

Not being a fan of the industrial American beers, my taste buds were vindicated when I visited the German pavilion and saw a bar serving Hofbräu-Festzelt which is also served at Munich Beer House we reviewed previously, read it here.

Six of the best… Beer ads. Hardly.

So someone pointed me to this article which mentions six of the ‘best’ beer ads. Disappointing to say the least, even if you argue that creative preference is personal and subjective. I guess its the claim that I took issue with: ‘Once again Media has scoured the world for the best ads on a particular theme.’ Just look at the comments and you’ll see I’m not alone with this point of view. C’mon Media, you gotta do better than that. Readers, you be the judge if these below ads that have been singled out by the article really deserve Hall of Fame status. No, they’re not horrible, but neither are they the ‘best’. Maybe the Carlton Flashbeer one. Maybe. Oh and I left out a North Korean beer ad that we’ve featured in a previous post. That’s interesting but hardly championship material either.
