175: So Keith, why this irresistible promotion?

175: Are you throwing an open challenge to Morton’s The Steakhouse?
KL: Of course not, happy hour promotions like free food is a very classic idea and is commonplace in Italy. We are merely serving a variation (free mini chopped steak burgers).

Talk about offering an incentive to drive support for your national football/rugby/netball/table tennis/Scramble team! A free beer is being promised to every adult in Australia if they win the Ashes. If you’re as clueless about cricket as us, the Ashes is some cricket match played between Australia and England, named as such because the winner takes home at urn of ashes (yes, we’ve given up trying to understand the game, let alone figure why anyone would want this honour).

Carlton and United Breweries sponsor the Australian team and they’ll be publishing coupons in five Australian newspapers which are good for a bottle of Victoria Bitter if the Aussies win. It’s estimated that this will cost them AUD$20 million. It’s been 24 years since they’ve won on home soil, we sincerely hope they don’t end up “bitter” about it!

At $10 a pint, newly opened Molly Roffey’s pub has to be offering the cheapest Guinness draft pints in town. We can’t think of another place that offers this at a lower price, even during happy hour! But it’s a limited time only till October. Where is it? It’s located at 51 Bras Basah Road Plaza By The Park, next to the Singapore Art Museum.

We’ve been scouring the web and flogging our sources to bring to your attention the best deals for satisfy your insatiable thirst these couple of weeks that we ourselves are getting might drained and of course, parched! Well, their Irish Ale has been around, we did drink it at the Beer Fest and it’s a great beer, so proud to be Singaporean and boasting of an Irish Ale!

Some of you have been asking why establishments don’t carry more varieties of beer. Well, if you haven’t noticed, Archipelago beers have been increasing their taps at lots of locations around town and with pretty good offers too. Even Pump Room carries their taps. But our favourite location for a pint of Archipelago is Mel’s Place along East Coast Road. Nice cosy restaurant with a huge outdoor seating for cool evenings.
